A security issue was found in Netplex Json-smart 2.5.0 through 2.5.1. When loading a specially crafted JSON input, containing a large number of ’{’, a stack exhaustion can be trigger, which could allow an attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS). This issue exists because of an incomplete fix for CVE-2023-1370. The fixed version only addresses the default modes provided by JSONParser, such as MODERFC4627. If you create the JSONParser manually or with custom options, make sure to set the LIMITJSONDEPTH option.
Recommended action: Upgrade to 2.5.2 or later, then redeploy and verify.A vendor fix does not resolve your finding until you verify it in your own systems.
Impact Affected versions of net.minidev:json-smart are vulnerable to Denial of Service (DoS) due to a StackOverflowError when parsing a deeply nested JSON array or object. When reaching a ‘‘ or ‘{‘ character in the JSON input, the code parses an array or an object respectively. It was discovered that the 3PP does not have any limit to the nesting of such arrays or objects. Since the parsing of nested arrays and objects is done recursively, nesting too many of them can cause stack exhaustion (stack overflow) and crash the software. Patches This vulnerability was fixed in json-smart version 2.4.9, but the maintainer recommends upgrading to 2.4.10, due to a remaining bug. A vulnerability was discovered in the indexOf function of JSONParserByteArray in JSON Smart versions prior to 1.3.3 and 2.4.5 which causes a denial of service (DOS) via a crafted web request.
Recommended action: Upgrade to 2.4.4 or 1.3.3 by release line, then redeploy and verify.A vendor fix does not resolve your finding until you verify it in your own systems.
An issue was discovered in netplex json-smart-v1 through 2015-10-23 and json-smart-v2 through 2.4. An exception is thrown from a function, but it is not caught, as demonstrated by NumberFormatException. When it is not caught, it may cause programs using the library to crash or expose sensitive information.
Recommended action: Upgrade to 2.4.1, 2.3.1 or 1.3.2 by release line, then redeploy and verify.A vendor fix does not resolve your finding until you verify it in your own systems.
