    Constellation has insecure LUKS2 persistent storage partitions which may be opened and used

    CVE-2025-58356 · GHSA-hq76-6gh2-5g4q

    Affected
    • Go github.com/edgelesssys/constellation/v2 <= 2.23.1
    Fixed in
    2.24.0· Vendor fix available
    Issue
    A malicious host may provide a crafted LUKS2 volume to a confidential computing guest that is using the OpenCryptDevice feature. The guest will open the volume and write secret data using a volume key known to the attacker. The attacker can also pre-load data on the device, which could potentially compromise guest execution. LUKS2 volume metadata is not authenticated and supports null key-encryption algorithms, allowing an attacker to create a volume such that the volume: - Opens (cryptsetup open) without error using any passphrase or token - Records all writes in plaintext (or ciphertext with an attacker-known key) - Contains arbitrary data chosen by the attacker Details The Constellation CVM image uses LUKS2-encrypted volumes for persistent storage. When opening an encrypted storage device, the CVM uses the libcryptsetup function cryptactivatebypasshrase. If the VM is successful in opening the partition with the disk encryption key, it treats the volume as confidential.…

    Constallation has pods exposed to peers in VPC

    GHSA-g8fc-vrcg-8vjg

    Affected
    • Go github.com/edgelesssys/constellation/v2 < 2.16.3
    Fixed in
    2.16.3· Vendor fix available
    Issue
    Impact Cilium allows outside actors (world entity) to directly access pods with their internal pod IP, even if they are not exposed explicitly (e.g. via LoadBalancer). A pod that does not authenticate clients and that does not exclude world traffic via network policy may leak sensitive data to an attacker inside the cloud VPC. Patches The issue has been patched in v2.16.3. Workarounds This network policy excludes all world traffic. It mitigates the problem, but will also block all desired external traffic. If vulnerable pods are known, a policy can be crafted to only firewall those instead (see also https://docs.cilium.io/en/stable/security/policy/language/#access-to-from-outside-cluster). References The tracking bug for a Cilium-side fix is https://github.com/cilium/cilium/issues/25626.

    Recommended action: Upgrade to 2.16.3 or later, then redeploy and verify.A vendor fix does not resolve your finding until you verify it in your own systems.

    Constellation allows Emergency shell access during initramfs boot phase

    GHSA-6w5f-5wgr-qjg5

    Affected
    • Go github.com/edgelesssys/constellation/v2 < 2.6.0
    Fixed in
    2.6.0· Vendor fix available
    Issue
    Impact An active attacker could let the boot fail on purpose in the initramfs, dropping the serial console into an emergency shell. This gives attackers with access to the serial console full control over the VM. Patches The issue has been patched in v2.6.0. Workarounds none

    Recommended action: Upgrade to 2.6.0 or later, then redeploy and verify.A vendor fix does not resolve your finding until you verify it in your own systems.

    User data in TPM attestation vulnerable to MITM

    GHSA-r2h5-3hgw-8j34

    Affected
    • Go github.com/edgelesssys/constellation/v2 <= 2.5.1
    Fixed in
    2.5.2· Vendor fix available
    Issue
    Impact Attestation user data (such as the digest of the public key in an aTLS connection) was bound to the issuer's TPM, but not to its PCR state. An attacker could intercept a node initialization, initialize the node themselves, and then impersonate an uninitialized node to the validator. In practice, this meant that a CSP insider with sufficient privileges would have been able to join a node under their control to a Constellation cluster. Patches The issue has been patched in v2.5.2. Workarounds none

    Recommended action: Upgrade to 2.5.2 or later, then redeploy and verify.A vendor fix does not resolve your finding until you verify it in your own systems.
