Constellation has insecure LUKS2 persistent storage partitions which may be opened and used
CVE-2025-58356GHSA-hq76-6gh2-5g4q
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/edgelesssys/constellation/v2 2.24.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary A malicious host may provide a crafted LUKS2 volume to a confidential computing guest that is using the OpenCryptDevice feature. The guest will open the volume and write secret data using a volume key known to the attacker. The attacker can also pre-load data on the device, which could potentially compromise guest execution. LUKS2 volume metadata is not authenticated and supports null key-encryption algorithms, allowing an attacker to create a volume such that the volume: - Opens (cryptsetup open) without error using any passphrase or token - Records all writes in plaintext (or ciphertext with an attacker-known key) - Contains arbitrary data chosen by the attacker Details The Constellation CVM image uses LUKS2-encrypted volumes for persistent storage. When opening an encrypted storage device, the CVM uses the libcryptsetup function cryptactivatebypasshrase. If the VM is successful in opening the partition with the disk encryption key, it treats the volume as confidential.…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2025-58356 Advisory: Constellation has insecure LUKS2 persistent storage partitions which may be opened and used IDs: CVE-2025-58356, GHSA-hq76-6gh2-5g4q Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2025-58356 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:13 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 8.3) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/edgelesssys/constellation/v2 2.24.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/edgelesssys/constellation/v2: affected <= 2.23.1; fixed in 2.24.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/edgelesssys/constellation/v2: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/edgelesssys/constellation/v2. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-hq76-6gh2-5g4q (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-hq76-6gh2-5g4q lists affected ranges: Go github.com/edgelesssys/constellation/v2 >=0 <=2.23.1) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
