    xml-crypto Vulnerable to XML Signature Verification Bypass via DigestValue Comment

    CVE-2025-29775 · GHSA-x3m8-899r-f7c3

    Affected
    • npm xml-crypto >= 4.0.0, < 6.0.1; >= 3.0.0, < 3.2.1; < 2.1.6
    Fixed in
    3.2.16.0.12.1.6· Vendor fix available
    Issue
    Impact An attacker may be able to exploit this vulnerability to bypass authentication or authorization mechanisms in systems that rely on xml-crypto for verifying signed XML documents. The vulnerability allows an attacker to modify a valid signed XML message in a way that still passes signature verification checks. For example, it could be used to alter critical identity or access control attributes, enabling an attacker to escalate privileges or impersonate another user. Patches All versions <= 6.0.0 are affected. Please upgrade to version 6.0.1. If you are still using v2.x or v3.x please upgrade to the associated patch version. Indicators of Compromise When logging XML payloads, check for the following indicators. If the payload includes encrypted elements, ensure you analyze the decrypted version for a complete assessment. (If encryption is not used, analyze the original XML document directly). This applies to various XML-based authentication and authorization flows, such as SAML…

    Recommended action: Upgrade to 6.0.1, 3.2.1 or 2.1.6 by release line, then redeploy and verify.A vendor fix does not resolve your finding until you verify it in your own systems.

The vulnerability allows an attacker to modify a valid signed XML message in a way that still passes signature verification checks. xml-crypto vulnerable to XML signature verification bypass due improper verification of signature/signature spoofing

    CVE-2024-32962 · GHSA-2xp3-57p7-qf4v

    Affected
    • npm xml-crypto >= 4.0.0, < 6.0.0
    Fixed in
    6.0.0· Vendor fix available
    Issue
    Default configuration does not check authorization of the signer, it only checks the validity of the signature per section 3.2.2 of https://www.w3.org/TR/2008/REC-xmldsig-core-20080610/#sec-CoreValidation. As such, without additional validation steps, the default configuration allows a malicious actor to re-sign an XML document, place the certificate in a <KeyInfo / element, and pass xml-crypto default validation checks. Details Affected xml-crypto versions between versions = 4.0.0 and < 6.0.0. xml-crypto trusts by default any certificate provided via digitally signed XML document's <KeyInfo /. xml-crypto prefers to use any certificate provided via digitally signed XML document's <KeyInfo / even if library was configured to use specific certificate (publicCert) for signature verification purposes. Attacker can spoof signature verification by modifying XML document and replacing existing signature with signature generated with malicious private key (created by attacker) and by…

    xml-crypto's HMAC-SHA1 signatures can bypass validation via key confusion

    GHSA-c27r-x354-4m68

    Affected
    • npm xml-crypto <= 1.5.3
    Fixed in
    2.0.0· Vendor fix available
    Issue
    Impact An attacker can inject an HMAC-SHA1 signature that is valid using only knowledge of the RSA public key. This allows bypassing signature validation. Patches Version 2.0.0 has the fix. Workarounds The recommendation is to upgrade. In case that is not possible remove the 'http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#hmac-sha1' entry from SignedXml.SignatureAlgorithms.
