    auth-fetch-mcp has SSRF Protection Bypass via IPv4-mapped IPv6 Loopback

    CVE-2026-49857 · GHSA-pvrj-8cg3-j5f8

    Affected
    • npm auth-fetch-mcp <= 3.0.1
    Fixed in
    3.0.2· Vendor fix available
    Issue
    SSRF Protection Bypass via IPv4-mapped IPv6 Loopback Summary auth-fetch-mcp v3.0.1 implements SSRF protection in assertSafeUrl() (src/security.ts) to block requests to private and loopback addresses. However, the isPrivateV6() function fails to detect IPv4-mapped IPv6 loopback addresses in their hex-normalized form. When an attacker supplies a URL such as http://[::ffff:127.0.0.1]:PORT/, the Node.js WHATWG URL parser silently normalizes the host to [::ffff:7f00:1]. Because net.isIPv4('7f00:1') returns false, the private-IP check is bypassed and the URL is passed to the browser or HTTP client, allowing the MCP tool to reach loopback services that are supposed to be blocked. The issue is exploitable under default configuration without any special environment variable and carries a CVSS v3.1 Base Score of 7.4 (High). Details The vulnerable function is isPrivateV6() in src/security.ts, called from assertSafeUrl() which gates every outbound request made by the authfetch and downloadmedia…

    auth-fetch-mcp: SSRF and disk exfiltration via unvalidated auth_fetch and download_media URLs

    GHSA-hv85-774v-26fg

    Affected
    • npm auth-fetch-mcp <= 3.0.0
    Fixed in
    3.0.1· Vendor fix available
    Issue
    SSRF + disk-exfil in downloadmedia and authfetch tools — ymw0407/auth-fetch-mcp Severity The downloadmedia and authfetch MCP tools accept arbitrary URLs and reach them as the MCP server process, with downloadmedia additionally persisting the fetched response body to a user-controlled output directory. An MCP client (LLM under prompt injection, malicious peer) can drive the server to fetch loopback / link-local / private-range hosts (cloud-instance metadata, internal services, host-bound services) and exfiltrate the response. Vulnerability chain Site 1: downloadmedia — SSRF + disk-write chain src/tools.ts:200-274 urls and outputdir are user-controlled. The handler iterates each URL (line 236) and calls ctx.request.get(url) (Playwright's APIRequestContext.get) without checking the destination. The response body is written to path.join(outputdir, file-N.ext). Internal-service responses are persisted to disk where they can be exfiltrated via any subsequent tool that reads from the output…
