github.com/ipfs/go-bitswap vulnerable to DOS unbounded persistent memory leak

GHSA-q3j6-22wf-3jh9

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/ipfs/go-bitswap 0.12.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

This package has been moved to github.com/ipfs/boxo/bitswap, this vulnerability is tracked there: https://github.com/ipfs/boxo/security/advisories/GHSA-m974-xj4j-7qv5 (CVE-2023-25568) Remediation This is a two step process: 1. Apply one of: - (recommended) upgrade from github.com/ipfs/go-bitswap to github.com/ipfs/boxo/bitswap. - If you are still using github.com/ipfs/go-bitswap and cannot upgrade to boxo, you can upgrade to github.com/ipfs/go-bitswap@v0.12.0, this will replace the go-bitswap implementation by stubs which points to boxo. 2. Open https://github.com/ipfs/boxo/security/advisories/GHSA-m974-xj4j-7qv5 and then follow boxo's remediation section. Vulnerable symbols - = v0.9.0; < v0.12.0 - github.com/ipfs/go-bitswap/server/internal/decision.(Engine).MessageReceived - github.com/ipfs/go-bitswap/server/internal/decision.(Engine).NotifyNewBlocks - github.com/ipfs/go-bitswap/server/internal/decision.(Engine).findOrCreate -…

# Patch Next advisory brief: GHSA-q3j6-22wf-3jh9

Advisory: github.com/ipfs/go-bitswap vulnerable to DOS unbounded persistent memory leak
IDs: GHSA-q3j6-22wf-3jh9
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/ghsa-q3j6-22wf-3jh9 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 14:58 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: High (CVSS 7.5)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/ipfs/go-bitswap 0.12.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Go github.com/ipfs/go-bitswap: affected < 0.12.0; fixed in 0.12.0

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Go github.com/ipfs/go-bitswap: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on github.com/ipfs/go-bitswap.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
