Clerk has an authorization bypass when combining organization, billing, or reverification checks

CVE-2026-42349GHSA-w24r-5266-9c3c

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (@clerk/expo 3.2.2; @clerk/react 6.4.3; @clerk/fastify 3.1.16, 2.6.31; @clerk/express 2.1.6, 1.7.79; @clerk/nuxt 2.2.5, 1.13.29; 12 more packages under Affected packages), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Summary has(), auth.protect(), and related authorization predicates in @clerk/shared, @clerk/nextjs, @clerk/backend, and other framework SDKs can return true for certain combined authorization checks when the result should be false, allowing a gated action to proceed for a user who does not satisfy the full set of requested conditions. Sessions are not compromised and no existing user can be impersonated. The bypass is limited to the authorization decision returned by the predicate. clerkMiddleware continues to authenticate requests correctly, auth() reflects the real authentication state, and token verification is unaffected. Who is affected All apps that combine more than one authorization dimension in a single has() or auth.protect() call should upgrade to the patched versions. Patches are drop-in with no API changes. The information below describes the scope of the bypass and helps developers understand whether their apps are potentially affected, but is not a reason to delay the…

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on @clerk/expo, @clerk/react, @clerk/fastify, @clerk/express, @clerk/nuxt, @clerk/astro, @clerk/backend, @clerk/nextjs, @clerk/clerk-react, @clerk/chrome-extension, @clerk/clerk-js, @clerk/tanstack-react-start, @clerk/hono, @clerk/vue, @clerk/react-router, @clerk/shared, @clerk/clerk-expo.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
