OpenViking: Unauthenticated remote bot control via OpenAPI HTTP routes

    CVE-2026-40525 · GHSA-jgq2-vq69-gr6h

    Affected
    • PyPI openviking < 0.3.9
    Fixed in
    0.3.9· Vendor fix available
    Issue
OpenViking prior to commit c7bb167 contains an authentication bypass vulnerability in the VikingBot OpenAPI HTTP route surface where the authentication check fails open when the apikey configuration value is unset or empty. Remote attackers with network access to the exposed service can invoke privileged bot-control functionality without providing a valid X-API-Key header, including submitting attacker-controlled prompts, creating or using bot sessions, and accessing downstream tools, integrations, secrets, or data accessible to the bot.

Recommended action: Upgrade to 0.3.9 or later, then redeploy and verify.A vendor fix does not resolve your finding until you verify it in your own systems.

OpenViking contains a missing authorization vulnerability in the task polling endpoints

    CVE-2026-22680 · GHSA-h336-2wxm-pr6q

    Affected
    • PyPI openviking < 0.3.3
    Fixed in
    0.3.3· Vendor fix available
    Issue
OpenViking versions prior to 0.3.3 contain a missing authorization vulnerability in the task polling endpoints that allows unauthorized attackers to enumerate or retrieve background task metadata created by other users. Attackers can access the /api/v1/tasks and /api/v1/tasks/{taskid} routes without authentication to expose task type, task status, resource identifiers, archive URIs, result payloads, and error information, potentially causing cross-tenant interference in multi-tenant deployments.

Recommended action: Upgrade to 0.3.3 or later, then redeploy and verify.A vendor fix does not resolve your finding until you verify it in your own systems.
