Rack Gem Subject to Denial of Service via Hash Collisions

    CVE-2011-5036 · GHSA-v6j3-7jrw-hq2p

    Affected
    • Maven org.jruby:jruby-parent < 1.6.5.1
    Fixed in
    1.6.5.1· Vendor fix available
    Issue
Rack before 1.1.3, 1.2.x before 1.2.5, and 1.3.x before 1.3.6 computes hash values for form parameters without restricting the ability to trigger hash collisions predictably, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) by sending many crafted parameters.

Recommended action: Upgrade to 1.6.5.1 or later, then redeploy and verify.A vendor fix does not resolve your finding until you verify it in your own systems.

JRuby denial of service via Hash Collision

    CVE-2012-5370 · GHSA-fmmq-j7pq-f85c

    Affected
    • Maven org.jruby:jruby-parent < 1.7.1
    Fixed in
    1.7.1· Vendor fix available
    Issue
JRuby computes hash values without properly restricting the ability to trigger hash collisions predictably, which allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) via crafted input to an application that maintains a hash table, as demonstrated by a universal multicollision attack against the MurmurHash2 algorithm, a different vulnerability than CVE-2011-4838.

Recommended action: Upgrade to 1.7.1 or later, then redeploy and verify.A vendor fix does not resolve your finding until you verify it in your own systems.
