    Kubewarden vulnerable to RBAC Reconnaissance via unchecked can_i host capability call

    CVE-2026-42541 · GHSA-wqcw-g35j-j578

    Affected
    • Go github.com/kubewarden/kubewarden-controller < 1.35.0
    Fixed in
    1.35.0· Vendor fix available
    Issue
    Impact Kubewarden is a policy engine for Kubernetes. Kubewarden cluster operators can grant permissions to users to deploy namespaced AdmissionPolicies and AdmissionPolicyGroups in their Namespaces. One of Kubewarden promises is that configured users can deploy namespaced policies in a safe manner, without privilege escalation. An attacker with privileged AdmissionPolicy or AdmissionPolicyGroup create permissions (which isn't the default) can craft a policy that makes use of the cani host callback. The callback issues a SubjectAccessReview (SAR) requests to enumerate RBAC permissions of any user or service account across the cluster. Three operations on the host capabilities kubewarden/kubernetes binding enforce the context-aware allow-list via canaccesskubernetesresource(): - listresourcesbynamespace - listresourcesall - getresource However, cani does not perform that check and forwards the request directly to the callback handler, which executes a real SubjectAccessReview using…

    Kubewarden: Cross-namespace data exfiltration via deprecated host callback binding

    CVE-2026-29773 · GHSA-6r7f-3fwq-hq74

    Affected

    Impact Kubewarden is a policy engine for Kubernetes. Kubewarden cluster operators can grant permissions to users to deploy namespaced AdmissionPolicies and AdmissionPolicyGroups in their Namespaces. One of Kubewarden promises is that configured users can deploy namespaced policies in a safe manner, without privilege escalation. An attacker with privileged "AdmissionPolicy" create permissions (which isn't the default) could make use of 3 deprecated host-callback APIs: kubernetes/ingresses, kubernetes/namespaces, kubernetes/services. The attacker can craft a policy that exercises these deprecated API calls and would allow them read access to Ingresses, Namespaces, and Services resources respectively. This attack is read-only, there is no write capability and no access to Secrets, ConfigMaps, or other resource types beyond these three. The attacker could read for example: - Namespace names and labels. - Services across all namespaces with ClusterIPs and ports to reveal cluster internal…

    KubeWarden's AdmissionPolicy and AdmissionPolicyGroup policies can be used to alter PolicyReport resources

    CVE-2025-24376 · GHSA-fc89-jghx-8pvg

    Affected
    • Go github.com/kubewarden/kubewarden-controller >= 1.7.0, < 1.21.0
    Fixed in
    1.21.0· Vendor fix available
    Issue
    Impact By design, AdmissionPolicy and AdmissionPolicyGroup can evaluate only namespaced resources. The resources to be evaluated are determined by the rules provided by the user when defining the policy. There might be Kubernetes namespaced resources that should not be validated by AdmissionPolicy and by the AdmissionPolicyGroup policies because of their sensitive nature. For example, PolicyReport are namespaced resources that contain the list of non compliant objects found inside of a namespace. See this section of Kubewarden’s documentation for more details about PolicyReport resources. An attacker can use either an AdmissionPolicy or an AdmissionPolicyGroup to prevent the creation and update of PolicyReport objects to hide non-compliant resources. Moreover, the same attacker might use a mutating AdmissionPolicy to alter the contents of the PolicyReport created inside of the namespace. Patches Starting from the 1.21.0 release, the validation rules applied to AdmissionPolicy and…

    Kubewarden-Controller information leak via AdmissionPolicyGroup Resource

    CVE-2025-24784 · GHSA-756x-m4mj-q96c

    Affected
    • Go github.com/kubewarden/kubewarden-controller >= 1.17.0, < 1.21.0
    Fixed in
    1.21.0· Vendor fix available
    Issue
    Impact The policy group feature, added to by the 1.17.0 release, introduced two new types of CRD: ClusterAdmissionPolicyGroup and AdmissionPolicyGroup. The former is cluster wide, while the latter is namespaced. By being namespaced, the AdmissionPolicyGroup has a well constrained impact on cluster resources. Hence, it’s considered safe to allow non-admin users to create and manage these resources in the namespaces they own. Kubewarden policies can be allowed to query the Kubernetes API at evaluation time; these types of policies are called “context aware“. Context aware policies can perform list and get operations against a Kubernetes cluster. The queries are done using the ServiceAccount of the Policy Server instance that hosts the policy. That means that access to the cluster is determined by the RBAC rules that apply to that ServiceAccount. The AdmissionPolicyGroup CRD allowed the deployment of context aware policies. This could allow an attacker to obtain information about…
