Source: amazon-inspector (66025f4cca9a4269af1b3b1278d850c9454b62d8e9ec90ad6e4ba8ac73c0fce2) The package's `prepare` lifecycle script executes `node index.js`, which reconstructs the hostname `npmp19n5--768.oob.awss.dev` by joining a string array and issues a DNS lookup via `require('dns').lookup(...)`. The destination is an out-of-band application-security-testing callback host carrying a unique per-package label, so installing the package confirms code execution on the installer's machine to the operator of that domain. The hostname is assembled from an array of fragments at runtime rather than appearing as a plain literal, concealing the destination from static scanners. The package provides no legitimate functionality consistent with a lifecycle-time DNS callback to an external token-bearing host.

This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Unrated Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor response not established. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - npm @an1mshnpmb9c84920/pipeprobe-obf-m19n5: affected >= 1.0.0, <= 1.0.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `npm ls @an1mshnpmb9c84920/pipeprobe-obf-m19n5 --all`: lists every installed copy and version, including transitive ones. Run in the project root after `npm ci`. ## Supported action No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on @an1mshnpmb9c84920/pipeprobe-obf-m19n5. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/MAL-2026-18439 (OSV record MAL-2026-18439 lists affected ranges: npm @an1mshnpmb9c84920/pipeprobe-obf-m19n5 >=1.0.0 <=1.0.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
