Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

spectral-net-probe has no functional code. Versions 1.0.1 and 1.0.4 have a postinstall script that runs `node index.js` on npm install, which sends an HTTPS GET to a Cloudflare quick tunnel (`https://nobody-johnston-with-enabling.trycloudflare.com/aa?x=1` and `https://imaging-amazing-trunk-surgeons.trycloudflare.com/marker104?v=1`). Version 1.0.10 runs when the package is loaded: it fetches `/api/modules/ECT-654321` from `http://154.57.164.64:30664` and `http://127.0.0.1:3000`, reads up to ten local files whose paths the reply lists in `data.cargo_hold`, and PUTs the first 400 characters of their contents to `/api/modules/ECT-987654` on both hosts. It was published by the npm account kristol07, which published two more packages the same day (phantom-chartwinds and phantom-powder-keg, placeholder versions only so far). --- _-= Per source details. # Patch Next advisory brief: mal-2026-18368

Advisory: Malicious code in spectral-net-probe (npm)
IDs: mal-2026-18368
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/mal-2026-18368 (revision 1, source checked 30 Oct 2026, 06:05 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Unrated
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor response not established. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- npm spectral-net-probe: affected >= 1.0.1, <= 1.0.1; >= 1.0.4, <= 1.0.4; >= 1.0.10, <= 1.0.10

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- `npm ls spectral-net-probe --all`: lists every installed copy and version, including transitive ones. Run in the project root after `npm ci`.

## Supported action
No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on spectral-net-probe.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.

## Sources
- Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/MAL-2026-18368 (OSV record MAL-2026-18368 lists affected ranges: npm spectral-net-probe >=1.0.1 =1.0.4 =1.0.10 <=1.0.10)

Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
