passwordcrackv2 poses as a dependency-free Discord MFA library but pulls node-net-pool from the attacker's GitHub repo lunexindonesia/node-net-pool, and on load lib/cache.js runs `try{module'require'}catch(_){}` to execute it. On Windows, that index.js downloads a script from a limbomail.com attachment URL, saves it as a hidden winsvc.js under %APPDATA%, %LOCALAPPDATA% or %TEMP%, runs it via a hidden WinSvcHost.vbs, persists through HKCU Run/RunOnce, UserInitMprLogonScript and a Startup shortcut, and re-checks for updates every two hours. Amazon Inspector reported the same loader stub in discord-mfa-solver (MAL-2026-16100). The npm account kingsize published passwordcrackv2 and passwordcracker with identical code on 2026-10-09 and 2026-10-10. --- _-= Per source details. Do not edit below this line.=-_

# Patch Next advisory brief: GHSA-pqwv-7rr5-v32f Advisory: Malicious code in passwordcrackv2 (npm) IDs: GHSA-pqwv-7rr5-v32f Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/mal-2026-17865 (revision 2, source checked 4 Nov 2026, 06:00 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Unrated Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor response not established. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - npm passwordcrackv2: affected every version ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `npm ls passwordcrackv2 --all`: lists every installed copy and version, including transitive ones. Run in the project root after `npm ci`. ## Supported action No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on passwordcrackv2. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/MAL-2026-17865 (OSV record MAL-2026-17865 lists affected ranges: npm passwordcrackv2 >=0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
