Vendor response not established. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check back for a fix.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source: amazon-inspector (3ac13184b04573151fc11ac8de28c384f016b49ed76d8689f46cf5c24909feca) The package's setup.py declares `scripts=['bin/python']`, which causes pip to copy the file literally named `python` into the installer's script directory (e.g. a virtualenv `bin/`, `/usr/local/bin/`, or `Scripts\` on Windows). The shipped `bin/python` file is not a Python script — it begins with ZIP magic `PK\x03\x04` and contains a bundled Windows Python 3.10 distribution (`python310.dll`, `pythonw.exe`, `_ssl.pyd`, `libssl-1_1.dll`, `python310.zip`). After install, invoking `python` from the affected directory resolves to this non-executable archive rather than a real interpreter, breaking the `python` command for anything that resolves it from that directory first. The archive contents are a stock Windows Python runtime and do not contain outbound network code, credential access, or persistence mechanisms; the harm is local…

# Patch Next advisory brief: mal-2026-17847

Advisory: Malicious code in npp-ml (PyPI)
IDs: mal-2026-17847
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/mal-2026-17847 (revision 1, source checked 30 Oct 2026, 06:40 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Unrated
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor response not established. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- PyPI npp-ml: affected >= 0.1.7, <= 0.1.7; >= 0.1.8, <= 0.1.8; >= 0.1.9, <= 0.1.9; >= 0.1.10, <= 0.1.10

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- `python -m pip show npp-ml`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active.

## Supported action
No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on npp-ml.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.

## Sources
