cel-go: JSON Private Fields Exposed via NativeTypes and ParseStructTag
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/google/cel-go 0.29.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
The function ext.NativeTypes(ParseStructTag("json")) does not honour the encoding/json skip directive json:"-". Fields tagged json:"-" are registered in the CEL type system under the literal name "-" and are readable from any user-submitted CEL expression via dyn(obj)["-"]. Additionally, newNativeTypes silently registers every nested struct reachable from the type passed to NativeTypes, including types from third-party dependencies the developer never examined. Root cause In fieldNameByTag, the helper used by ParseStructTag("json") to translate Go struct tags into CEL field names. See at ext/native.go:146: For a field tagged json:"-", this code splits the tag into []string{"-"} and returns "-" as the CEL field name. It never checks whether "-" is the JSON skip sentinel. This contradicts the encoding/json rule that the source comment explicitly points readers to: The public option also documents JSON-style parsing as the intended behavior. See at ext/native.go:190: A developer using…

# Patch Next advisory brief: GHSA-gcjh-h69q-9w9g Advisory: cel-go: JSON Private Fields Exposed via NativeTypes and ParseStructTag IDs: GHSA-gcjh-h69q-9w9g Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/go-2026-6094 (revision 3, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:27 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 6.3) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/google/cel-go 0.29.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/google/cel-go: affected >= 0.22.0, <= 0.28.1; fixed in 0.29.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/google/cel-go: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/google/cel-go. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2026-6094 (OSV record GO-2026-6094 lists affected ranges: Go github.com/google/cel-go >=0.22.0 <0.30.0 (fixed)) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-gcjh-h69q-9w9g (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-gcjh-h69q-9w9g lists affected ranges: Go github.com/google/cel-go >=0.22.0 <=0.28.1) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
