Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

The dnp3times crate attempted to exfiltrate .env files to a server that was in turn impersonating the legitimate timeapi.io service. It was loosely trying to typosquat the dnp3time crate, but otherwise was the same attack as the recent timecalibrator and timecalibrators malware. The malicious crate had 1 version published on 2026-03-04 approximately 6 hours before removal and had no evidence of actual downloads. There were no crates depending on this crate on crates.io.

## Affected components
- crates.io dnp3times: affected every version

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- crates.io dnp3times: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on dnp3times.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
