mistral.rs Media Loader: Unauthenticated SSRF and arbitrary local file read via image_url
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (mistralrs-server-core 0.8.18), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Summary mistral.rs fetches any request-supplied image/audio URL with no host or IP validation, and opens arbitrary local files (a file:// URL, or any existing relative/absolute path). A remote, unauthenticated client of any vision/audio deployment can cause the server to issue requests to internal or cloud-metadata addresses (SSRF) and to open arbitrary local files, via the standard OpenAI imageurl / audiourl message content. The server is unauthenticated by default. Details parseimageurl in mistralrs-server-core/src/util.rs (lines 45-88) resolves the request string and fetches/opens it: reqwest::get has no allowlist, no private/loopback/link-local/metadata block, and follows redirects by default. The file scheme (and any bare path that already exists on the server, resolved at line 48) is opened and read. parseaudiourl (line 91) is identical for audiourl. The value reaches this unvalidated: mistralrs-server-core/src/chatcompletion.rs calls parseimageurl(&urlunparsed) /…

# Patch Next advisory brief: GHSA-wfgq-w7cq-qj7j Advisory: mistral.rs Media Loader: Unauthenticated SSRF and arbitrary local file read via image_url IDs: GHSA-wfgq-w7cq-qj7j Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/ghsa-wfgq-w7cq-qj7j (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:43 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 7.2) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: mistralrs-server-core 0.8.18. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - crates.io mistralrs-server-core: affected <= 0.8.17; fixed in 0.8.18 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - crates.io mistralrs-server-core: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on mistralrs-server-core. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-wfgq-w7cq-qj7j (OSV record GHSA-wfgq-w7cq-qj7j lists affected ranges: crates.io mistralrs-server-core >=0 <0.8.18 (fixed)) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-wfgq-w7cq-qj7j (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-wfgq-w7cq-qj7j lists affected ranges: crates.io mistralrs-server-core >=0 <=0.8.17) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
