ORAS Go forwards registry credentials across registry redirects

GHSA-vh4v-2xq2-g5cg

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (oras.land/oras-go/v2 2.6.1), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

ORAS Go forwards registry credentials across registry redirects Reporter / public credit: JUNYI LIU Summary ORAS Go can forward registry credentials configured for one registry origin to a different HTTP origin during registry redirects. There are two related paths: 1. A manifest or metadata request authenticates to the origin registry, then the origin returns a redirect to another host or port. The redirected request can carry the origin Authorization header to the redirect target. 2. A blob upload POST authenticates to the origin registry, then the origin returns an upload Location on another host or port. The follow-up PUT can carry the origin Authorization header to the Location target. The upload Location issue appears related to the existing public fix in pull request #1152 / GHSA-jxpm-75mh-9fp7. The manifest redirect path is a residual adjacent route: the v2 branch after the upload Location fix still forwards Basic credentials on an authenticated manifest redirect. Impact A…

Advisory: ORAS Go forwards registry credentials across registry redirects
IDs: GHSA-vh4v-2xq2-g5cg
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/ghsa-vh4v-2xq2-g5cg (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:24 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Medium (CVSS 6.9)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: oras.land/oras-go/v2 2.6.1. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Go oras.land/oras-go/v2: affected < 2.6.1; fixed in 2.6.1

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Go oras.land/oras-go/v2: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on oras.land/oras-go/v2.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.

## Sources
- Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-vh4v-2xq2-g5cg (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-vh4v-2xq2-g5cg lists affected ranges: Go oras.land/oras-go/v2 >=0 <2.6.1)

Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
