Sensitive Information Exposure Through Insecure Logging For Secrets Like Metadata.DockerBuildArgs

GHSA-rjc6-vm4h-85cg

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (aws-sam-cli 1.122.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Summary The AWS Serverless Application Model (SAM) CLI is an open source tool that allows customers to build, deploy and test their serverless applications built on AWS. AWS SAM CLI can build container (Docker) images and customers can specify arguments in the SAM template that are passed to the Docker engine during build [1]. Impact If customers specify sensitive data in the DockerBuildArgs parameter of their template, the sensitive data will be shown in clear text in the AWS SAM CLI output via STDERR when running the sam build command. Patches A patch is included in aws-sam-cli=1.122.0. We strongly recommend customers install AWS SAM CLI v1.122.0 or above. Please review logs produced by your SAM CLI runs if you have used the DockerBuildArgs parameter and consider rotating the secrets if you believe they were exposed. # Patch Next advisory brief: GHSA-rjc6-vm4h-85cg

Advisory: Sensitive Information Exposure Through Insecure Logging For Secrets Like Metadata.DockerBuildArgs
IDs: GHSA-rjc6-vm4h-85cg
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/ghsa-rjc6-vm4h-85cg (revision 3, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:16 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Medium (CVSS 5.7)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: aws-sam-cli 1.122.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- PyPI aws-sam-cli: affected < 1.122.0; fixed in 1.122.0

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- `python -m pip show aws-sam-cli`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on aws-sam-cli.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
