go.rgst.io/stencil/v2 vulnerable to Path Traversal
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (go.rgst.io/stencil/v2 2.3.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

Impact The library used to extract archives (github.com/jaredallard/archives) was vulnerable to the "zip slip" vulnerability. This is used to extract native extension archives and repository source archives. A native extension or repository archive could be crafted in such a way where a remote code execution or modification/reading of a file is possible using the user who is running stencil. The severity is marked as "medium" because native extensions have always considered to be "unsafe" to run when not trusted. Native extensions are arbitrary code being ran, which could always do this same exploit with less steps. The medium severity is to reflect that this could be done even when a user is not using a native extension, for example a repository source archive. However, one would need to mutate the archives provided by Github or perform some hackery with links, which may not be possible. Thus, "medium" is used out of an abundance of caution where I would've labeled this as "low".…

# Patch Next advisory brief: GHSA-p799-q2pr-6mxj Advisory: go.rgst.io/stencil/v2 vulnerable to Path Traversal IDs: GHSA-p799-q2pr-6mxj Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/ghsa-p799-q2pr-6mxj (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:09 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 6.0) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: go.rgst.io/stencil/v2 2.3.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go go.rgst.io/stencil/v2: affected < 2.3.0; fixed in 2.3.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go go.rgst.io/stencil/v2: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on go.rgst.io/stencil/v2. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-p799-q2pr-6mxj (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-p799-q2pr-6mxj lists affected ranges: Go go.rgst.io/stencil/v2 >=0 <2.3.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
