appsmith has SQL Injection in FilterDataService via Unsafe DROP TABLE Execution

GHSA-h8cj-hpmg-636v

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (com.appsmith:interfaces 1.99), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Summary A SQL injection vulnerability exists in FilterDataServiceCE.java where the dropTable method constructs a SQL DROP TABLE statement using string concatenation with the table name. If the table name is derived from user input, this allows for arbitrary SQL command execution. Details The vulnerability is located in app/server/appsmith-interfaces/src/main/java/com/appsmith/external/services/ce/FilterDataServiceCE.java. Line 627 in dropTable method: The tableName argument is concatenated directly into the SQL string without validation or escaping. PoC If dropTable is exposed to user input (e.g., via a utility API that accepts a table name to clean up), an attacker could provide a value like: validtable; DROP TABLE users; -- The resulting query would be: DROP TABLE validtable; DROP TABLE users; --; This would delete the intended table and then delete the users table (or execute any other injected SQL). Impact Type: SQL Injection Impact: Data Loss (Drop Table), potentially Data…

Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: com.appsmith:interfaces 1.99. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Maven com.appsmith:interfaces: affected <= 1.98; fixed in 1.99

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Maven com.appsmith:interfaces: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on com.appsmith:interfaces.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.

## Sources
- Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-h8cj-hpmg-636v (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-h8cj-hpmg-636v lists affected ranges: Maven com.appsmith:interfaces >=0 <=1.98)

Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
