DoS Vulnerability from Upstream Actix Web Issues

GHSA-gjrj-9rj4-pgwx

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (perseus-actix-web 0.3.0-beta.22), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Impact This vulnerability affects all users of the perseus deploy functionality who have not exported their sites to static files. If you are using the inbuilt Perseus server in production, there is a memory leak in Actix Web stemming from this upstream issue which can allow even a single user to cause the process to exhaust its memory on low-memory servers by continuously reloading the page. Note that this issue does not affect all Actix Web applications, but rather results from certain usage patterns which appear to be present in Perseus' server mechanics. Patches This vulnerability is addressed in all versions after Perseus v0.3.0-beta.21, which temporarily discontinues the use of perseus-actix-web (until the upstream bug is fixed) and switches to perseus-warp instead, which utilizes Warp. Additionally, as of Perseus v0.3.0-beta.22, the Actix Web integration has been upgraded to use the latest unstable beta version of Actix Web, which appears to partially resolve this issue (the…

Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/ghsa-gjrj-9rj4-pgwx (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:33 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Unrated
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: perseus-actix-web 0.3.0-beta.22. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- crates.io perseus-actix-web: affected <= 0.3.0-beta.21; fixed in 0.3.0-beta.22

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- crates.io perseus-actix-web: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on perseus-actix-web.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.

## Sources
- Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-gjrj-9rj4-pgwx (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-gjrj-9rj4-pgwx lists affected ranges: crates.io perseus-actix-web >=0 <=0.3.0-beta.21)

Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
