Umbraco.Forms CDN may cache sensitive form uploads when processed by ImageSharp

GHSA-7jxj-rpx7-ph2c

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (umbraco.forms 17.1.0, 16.4.0, 13.9.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Impact Protected files uploaded through Umbraco Forms may be served to unauthenticated users when a CDN or caching layer is present and ImageSharp processes the request. ImageSharp sets aggressive cache headers by default, which can cause intermediary caches to store and serve files that should require authentication. Patches This issue affects all (supported) versions Umbraco Forms and is patched in 13.9.0, 16.4.0 and 17.1.0. Workarounds Add middleware to set cache headers for form uploads. Place the following code in your Startup.cs or Program.cs after app.UseStaticFiles() and any image processing middleware: Alternatively, configure your CDN to bypass caching for URLs matching /media/forms/upload/. Note: The vulnerability requires: - A CDN in front of the website - An authenticated user having previously requested the image - Knowledge of the form GUID, entry GUID, and image filename If no CDN is in use, this vulnerability does not apply.

Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/ghsa-7jxj-rpx7-ph2c (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 17:04 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Low (CVSS 3.1)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: umbraco.forms 17.1.0, 16.4.0, 13.9.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- NuGet umbraco.forms: affected < 13.9.0; >= 14.0.0-beta001, < 16.4.0; >= 17.0.0-rc1, < 17.1.0; fixed in 17.1.0, 16.4.0, 13.9.0

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- NuGet umbraco.forms: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on umbraco.forms.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
