Chrono has potential segfault issue in SPIFFE authenticator
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (parsec-service 1.1.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Impact Several vulnerabilities have been reported in the time and chrono crates related to handling of calls to localtimer. You can follow some of the discussions here and here, and the associated CVE here. In our case, the issue with the dependency was flagged by our nightly CI build running cargo-audit. The vulnerability leads to a segfault in specific circumstances - namely, when one of a number of functions in the time crate is called while any other thread is setting an environment variable. Given that in the case of the Parsec service this affects the SPIFFE authenticator, Parsec service users can encounter the issue only when the JWT SVID authenticator is enabled and being used. We have not undergone any manual tracing to understand if the vulnerable methods are called anywhere in our stack, however it seems reasonable to expect that if that were to be the case, the issue would lie in JWT validation (i.e. when handling the dates found within a Json Web Token). JWT validation…

# Patch Next advisory brief: GHSA-45w3-v3g4-54pm Advisory: Chrono has potential segfault issue in SPIFFE authenticator IDs: GHSA-45w3-v3g4-54pm Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/ghsa-45w3-v3g4-54pm (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:33 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Unrated Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: parsec-service 1.1.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - crates.io parsec-service: affected >= 0.8.0, < 1.1.0; fixed in 1.1.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - crates.io parsec-service: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on parsec-service. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-45w3-v3g4-54pm (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-45w3-v3g4-54pm lists affected ranges: crates.io parsec-service >=0.8.0 <1.1.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
