Eclipse Jetty: Path parameter traversal
CVE-2026-8384GHSA-w7x5-g22v-xqhr
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-util 12.1.9, 12.0.35), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Description (as reported) Summary In Jetty 12.1.8, org.eclipse.jetty.util.URIUtil.canonicalPath() may leave dot-dot path segments unnormalized when a semicolon path parameter marker is followed by a slash and a dot segment. A minimal example is: /public;/../admin/secret In my local reproduction, URIUtil.canonicalPath() returns: /public/../admin/secret instead of the expected normalized path: /admin/secret When Jetty's SecurityHandler.PathMapped is used to protect a path prefix such as /admin/, the non-normalized canonical path may not match the protected prefix. As a result, an unauthenticated request may bypass the configured path-based security constraint. Tested Version Jetty: 12.1.8 JDK: 17.0.18 Maven: 3.9.14 Maven artifacts used: org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-server:12.1.8 org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-security:12.1.8 org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-session:12.1.8 Only confirmed Jetty 12.1.8 so far. Minimal Reproduction Starts a minimal Jetty server with the following security setup: The test then…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-8384 Advisory: Eclipse Jetty: Path parameter traversal IDs: CVE-2026-8384, GHSA-w7x5-g22v-xqhr Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-8384 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 16:54 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 5.3) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-util 12.1.9, 12.0.35. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Maven org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-util: affected >= 12.0.0, <= 12.0.34; >= 12.1.0, <= 12.1.8; fixed in 12.0.35, 12.1.9 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Maven org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-util: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-util. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-w7x5-g22v-xqhr (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-w7x5-g22v-xqhr lists affected ranges: Maven org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-util >=12.0.0 =12.1.0 <=12.1.8) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
