Nodemailer: Message-level raw option bypasses disableFileAccess/disableUrlAccess, enabling arbitrary file read and full-response SSRF in the delivered message
CVE-2026-82659GHSA-p6gq-j5cr-w38f
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (nodemailer 9.0.1), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Message-level raw option bypasses disableFileAccess / disableUrlAccess, enabling arbitrary file read and full-response SSRF in the sent message - Target: nodemailer/nodemailer, npm nodemailer v9.0.0 (HEAD 4e58450eb490e5097a74b2b2cce35a8d9e21856e) - Verdict: CONFIRMED (local PoC, no network) Summary Nodemailer exposes disableFileAccess and disableUrlAccess so an application that passes untrusted message data to the library can forbid that data from reading local files or fetching URLs. Every attachment, alternative, html/text/watchHtml/amp and icalEvent content node honors these flags. The message-level raw option does not. MailComposer.compile() builds the root MIME node for a raw message without threading the two flags, so a raw: { path: '/etc/passwd' } or raw: { href: 'http://169.254.169.254/…' } message is read / fetched anyway, and the file or HTTP-response bytes become the actual message that is sent by every transport (SMTP, SES, sendmail, stream, JSON). An actor whose input…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-82659 Advisory: Nodemailer: Message-level raw option bypasses disableFileAccess/disableUrlAccess, enabling arbitrary file read and full-response SSRF in the delivered message IDs: CVE-2026-82659, GHSA-p6gq-j5cr-w38f Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-82659 (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:02 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 7.1) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: nodemailer 9.0.1. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - npm nodemailer: affected <= 9.0.0; fixed in 9.0.1 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `npm ls nodemailer --all`: lists every installed copy and version, including transitive ones. Run in the project root after `npm ci`. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on nodemailer. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-p6gq-j5cr-w38f (OSV record GHSA-p6gq-j5cr-w38f lists affected ranges: npm nodemailer >=0 <9.0.1 (fixed)) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-p6gq-j5cr-w38f (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-p6gq-j5cr-w38f lists affected ranges: npm nodemailer >=0 <=9.0.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
