rclone: Verbose Stack Trace Disclosure in RC API Error Responses
CVE-2026-79777GHSA-gwfq-86j8-7qhv
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/rclone/rclone 1.75.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Summary When an RC API call triggers a panic (recovered by the job runner), the full Go stack trace is included in the JSON error response. This leaks internal file paths, Go module versions, goroutine state, and memory addresses to the API caller. Details The panic recovery in fs/rc/jobs/job.go:110-115: The full debug.Stack() output is placed into j.Error, which is then returned in the HTTP response JSON. PoC Trigger a parse error by setting config path to a non-INI file, then calling dump: Response includes: Disclosed information includes: - Full filesystem paths (github.com/rclone/rclone/fs/config/config.go:377) - Go module versions (github.com/go-chi/chi/v5@v5.2.5) - Go runtime version (from binary) - Goroutine IDs and states - Memory addresses (ASLR leak) - File contents (first unparseable line of the target file) Tested and confirmed on rclone v1.74.4. Impact Information disclosure that aids exploitation of other vulnerabilities. Stack traces reveal internal architecture,…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-79777 Advisory: rclone: Verbose Stack Trace Disclosure in RC API Error Responses IDs: CVE-2026-79777, GHSA-gwfq-86j8-7qhv Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-79777 (revision 4, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:28 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 5.1) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/rclone/rclone 1.75.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/rclone/rclone: affected <= 1.74.4; fixed in 1.75.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/rclone/rclone: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/rclone/rclone. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-gwfq-86j8-7qhv (OSV record GHSA-gwfq-86j8-7qhv lists affected ranges: Go github.com/rclone/rclone >=0 <1.75.0 (fixed)) - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2026-6181 (OSV record GO-2026-6181 lists affected ranges: Go github.com/rclone/rclone >=0 <1.75.0 (fixed)) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-gwfq-86j8-7qhv (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-gwfq-86j8-7qhv lists affected ranges: Go github.com/rclone/rclone >=0 <=1.74.4) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
