Steeltoe.Management.Endpoint: HttpExchanges URI masking leaks query-string secrets

CVE-2026-75523GHSA-8phw-xrj9-cpqp

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (steeltoe.management.endpoint 4.3.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Summary Steeltoe's /actuator/httpexchanges endpoint records and displays request URIs after passing them through MaskedUri. The masking only covers the UserInfo portion of the URI (inline user:password@host credentials) and does not inspect the query string. With IncludeQueryString enabled by default, any secrets carried in query strings (for example: OAuth tokens, password-reset tokens, signed-URL signatures, API keys) are returned verbatim in the uri field of the response and written to logs at DEBUG level. Impact Any caller who can reach /actuator/httpexchanges can receive full request URIs from prior traffic, including any secrets those URIs contained in their query strings. Applications with DEBUG-level logging enabled for the Steeltoe.Management.Endpoint.Actuators.HttpExchanges namespace also write these URIs to their application logs. Affected configuration - httpexchanges is explicitly added to the actuator exposure list (Management:Endpoints:Web:Exposure:Include). It is not…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-75523

Advisory: Steeltoe.Management.Endpoint: HttpExchanges URI masking leaks query-string secrets
IDs: CVE-2026-75523, GHSA-8phw-xrj9-cpqp
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-75523 (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 17:05 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Medium (CVSS 5.9)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: steeltoe.management.endpoint 4.3.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- NuGet steeltoe.management.endpoint: affected <= 4.2.0; fixed in 4.3.0

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- NuGet steeltoe.management.endpoint: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on steeltoe.management.endpoint.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
