Source description

Summary Budibase's MongoDB query execution endpoint (POST /api/v2/queries/:queryId) is vulnerable to NoSQL injection through user-supplied query parameters. The enrichContext() function interpolates parameter values into JSON query templates using Handlebars with noEscaping: true, then parses the result with JSON.parse(). An attacker can inject JSON metacharacters (", {, }) into parameter values to alter the structure of MongoDB queries, bypassing intended filters to read, modify, or delete arbitrary documents. Details The vulnerability exists because input validation and interpolation are misaligned. The validateQueryInputs() function blocks Handlebars template syntax ({{}}) but does not sanitize JSON structural characters: packages/server/src/api/controllers/query/index.ts:57-69 After validation passes, enrichContext() performs raw string interpolation with escaping explicitly disabled: packages/server/src/sdk/workspace/queries/queries.ts:105-108 The interpolated string is then…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-73618 Advisory: Budibase: NoSQL Injection via JSON Parameter Interpolation in MongoDB Query Execution IDs: CVE-2026-73618, GHSA-qw6m-8fw2-2v64 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-73618 (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 12:58 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 8.3) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor response not established. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - npm @budibase/server: affected <= 3.38.1 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `npm ls @budibase/server --all`: lists every installed copy and version, including transitive ones. Run in the project root after `npm ci`. ## Supported action No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on @budibase/server. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-qw6m-8fw2-2v64 (OSV record GHSA-qw6m-8fw2-2v64 lists affected ranges: npm @budibase/server >=0 <=3.38.1) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-qw6m-8fw2-2v64 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-qw6m-8fw2-2v64 lists affected ranges: npm @budibase/server >=0 <=3.38.1) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
