Source description

Summary When creating a MongoDB datasource, Budibase passes the tlsCertificateKeyFile and tlsCAFile fields straight to the MongoDB driver as server-side file paths. On Budibase Cloud a customer cannot place files on the server, so these fields only let a builder reference arbitrary absolute paths on the underlying multi-tenant server. When the datasource is verified, the driver performs a real filesystem read of that path, and the error differs by file state, turning /api/datasources/verify into an arbitrary-path existence/read oracle over the whole server filesystem. Root Cause packages/server/src/integrations/mongodb.ts passes config.tlsCertificateKeyFile / config.tlsCAFile directly to new MongoClient(config.connectionString, options) as filesystem paths, with no allow-list, no confinement to a certificates directory, and no rejection of absolute / .. paths. # Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-73409 Advisory: Budibase: Server Filesystem Existence/Read Oracle via Builder-Controlled MongoDB tlsCertificateKeyFile IDs: CVE-2026-73409, GHSA-ppr4-5f46-j9c6 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-73409 (revision 3, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:01 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 7.0) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor response not established. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - npm @budibase/server: affected <= 3.38.1 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `npm ls @budibase/server --all`: lists every installed copy and version, including transitive ones. Run in the project root after `npm ci`. ## Supported action No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on @budibase/server. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-ppr4-5f46-j9c6 (OSV record GHSA-ppr4-5f46-j9c6 lists affected ranges: npm @budibase/server >=0 <=3.38.1) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-ppr4-5f46-j9c6 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-ppr4-5f46-j9c6 lists affected ranges: npm @budibase/server >=0 <=3.38.1) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
