Microsoft Security Advisory CVE-2026-70186 - ASP.NET Core Denial of Service Vulnerability
CVE-2026-70186GHSA-mf4x-w4gh-4656
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.linux-arm64 10.0.13, 9.0.21, 8.0.32; microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.linux-musl-arm64 10.0.13, 9.0.21, 8.0.32; microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.osx-x64 10.0.13, 9.0.21, 8.0.32; microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.linux-arm 10.0.13, 9.0.21, 8.0.32; microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.win-x86 10.0.13, 9.0.21, 8.0.32; 6 more packages under Affected packages), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Executive summary Microsoft is releasing this security advisory to provide information about a vulnerability in Microsoft.AspNetCore.Server.Kestrel.Core. This advisory also provides guidance on what developers can do to update their applications to remove this vulnerability. An unauthenticated remote attacker can send crafted HTTP/3 reset or abort sequences that deadlock Kestrel connection handling. Repeated requests can cause excessive blocked-thread creation and exhaust server resources, resulting in denial of service. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.linux-arm64, microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.linux-musl-arm64, microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.osx-x64, microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.linux-arm, microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.win-x86, microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.linux-x64, microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.linux-musl-arm, microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.linux-musl-x64, microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.osx-arm64, microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.win-x64, microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.win-arm64. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-mf4x-w4gh-4656 (OSV record GHSA-mf4x-w4gh-4656 lists affected ranges: NuGet microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.linux-arm >=8.0.0 =10.0.0 =9.0.0 =8.0.0 =10.0.0 =9.0.0 =8.0.0 =10.0.0 =9.0.0 <9.0.21 (fixed); NuGet microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.linux-musl-arm64…) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-mf4x-w4gh-4656 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-mf4x-w4gh-4656 lists affected ranges: NuGet microsoft.aspnetcore.app.runtime.linux-arm >=8.0.0 =10.0.0 =9.0.0 =8.0.0 =10.0.0 =9.0.0 =8.0.0 =10.0.0 =9.0.0 =8.0.0 =10.0.0 =9.0.0…) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
