MobSF Vulnerable to Zip Bomb Denial of Service via Per-File Size Limit Bypass in ZIP/APK Extraction
CVE-2026-68924GHSA-x768-8642-mmq9
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (mobsf 4.5.1), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary When extracting uploaded ZIP/APK files, MobSF checks if individual files exceed ZIPMAXUNCOMPRESSEDFILESIZE (400 MB) and logs "Skipping" — but the code lacks a continue statement, so extraction proceeds anyway. The log message is misleading; the file is still written to disk. Verified Impact (Code Audit) The vulnerable code path in sharedfunc.py lines 153–182: The control flow is clear: after the size check logs "Skipping", no continue or break is issued. The code proceeds to line 182 which extracts the file unconditionally. Steps to Reproduce 1. Create a ZIP/APK with a file exceeding 400 MB (zeros compress very well): 2. Upload via API: 3. Trigger scan, then verify: Why This Is Not a Self-Bug - This affects any user who scans a maliciously crafted APK - The APK could come from a legitimate-looking package submitted for security review - Matches the pattern of GHSA-c5vg-26p8-q8cr (Zip bomb DoS, affected <=4.3.2) — that advisory fixed the total size limit but this per-file…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-68924 Advisory: MobSF Vulnerable to Zip Bomb Denial of Service via Per-File Size Limit Bypass in ZIP/APK Extraction IDs: CVE-2026-68924, GHSA-x768-8642-mmq9 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-68924 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:50 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 4.9) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: mobsf 4.5.1. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - PyPI mobsf: affected < 4.5.1; fixed in 4.5.1 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `python -m pip show mobsf`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on mobsf. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-x768-8642-mmq9 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-x768-8642-mmq9 lists affected ranges: PyPI mobsf >=0 <4.5.1) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
