Axios: Prototype pollution auth subfields can inject Basic auth
CVE-2026-67314GHSA-xj6q-8x83-jv6g
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (axios 1.18.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

Summary Axios versions after the GHSA-q8qp-cvcw-x6jj fix still contain prototype-pollution read-side gadgets in Basic auth subfield handling. If a host application is already affected by prototype pollution and then makes an axios request with an own auth object that omits username or password, axios reads inherited Object.prototype.username and Object.prototype.password values and uses them to construct an outbound Authorization: Basic ... header. This does not mean axios itself pollutes prototypes. Exploitation requires a separate prototype-pollution primitive in the host process, plus an axios call pattern such as auth: opts.auth || {}. Impact An attacker who can pollute Object.prototype.username and/or Object.prototype.password can influence the Basic auth header on affected axios requests that pass an empty or partial own auth object. The practical impact is outbound request tampering. The attacker can inject attacker-chosen Basic auth credentials, replace an existing…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-67314 Advisory: Axios: Prototype pollution auth subfields can inject Basic auth IDs: CVE-2026-67314, GHSA-xj6q-8x83-jv6g Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-67314 (revision 3, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:01 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 6.3) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: axios 1.18.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - npm axios: affected >= 1.15.2, < 1.18.0; fixed in 1.18.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `npm ls axios --all`: lists every installed copy and version, including transitive ones. Run in the project root after `npm ci`. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on axios. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-xj6q-8x83-jv6g (OSV record GHSA-xj6q-8x83-jv6g lists affected ranges: npm axios >=1.15.2 <1.18.0 (fixed)) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-xj6q-8x83-jv6g (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-xj6q-8x83-jv6g lists affected ranges: npm axios >=1.15.2 <1.18.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
