Grav: Decompression-bomb size cap bypassed by forged ZIP size in ZipArchiver/Installer

CVE-2026-61449GHSA-8h9x-89f2-m7x3

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (getgrav/grav 2.0.2), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Affected packages

  • Packagist getgrav/grav

    Affected
    >= 2.0.1, <= 2.0.1
    Fixed in
    2.0.2

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Summary The decompression-bomb bound added in 2.0.1 (commit 1c1003c) sums ZipArchive::statIndex($i)['size'] and rejects an archive whose declared uncompressed total exceeds system.gpm.archive.maxuncompressedsize (default 1 GiB) before extracting (ZipArchiver.php:77-86; same logic in GPM\Installer::unZip at Installer.php:228-238). statIndex()['size'] is the uncompressed size declared in the ZIP central directory, which is attacker-forgeable and is not checked against the actual inflated stream. An archive declaring 1 byte per entry passes the cap while extractTo() writes the real (large) content. The entry-count and nesting-depth caps count real structure and still hold; only the size dimension is defeated, so the disk-fill / inode-exhaustion case the bound targets is not prevented. Incomplete fix for GHSA-928x-9mpw-8h56. Details extract()/unZip() validate every entry up front, then call Folder::create + extractTo. The size check is: $stat['size'] is read from the central directory,…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-61449

Advisory: Grav: Decompression-bomb size cap bypassed by forged ZIP size in ZipArchiver/Installer
IDs: CVE-2026-61449, GHSA-8h9x-89f2-m7x3
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-61449 (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 14:53 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Medium (CVSS 6.5)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: getgrav/grav 2.0.2. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Packagist getgrav/grav: affected >= 2.0.1, <= 2.0.1; fixed in 2.0.2

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Packagist getgrav/grav: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on getgrav/grav.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
