Jenkins Script Security Plugin sandbox bypass vulnerability

CVE-2026-57280GHSA-c3jm-9vj7-5v66

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (org.jenkins-ci.plugins:script-security 1402.1405.vc96e74964250), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Jenkins Script Security Plugin provides a sandbox feature that allows running user-provided scripts safely by intercepting and checking potentially unsafe operations. Script Security Plugin 1402.v94c9ce464861 and earlier does not intercept the implicit type cast applied to each element of the iterated collection in a typed for loop (e.g. for (Type t in collection)), as this cast is performed during bytecode generation rather than in the transformed script AST. This allows attackers able to provide sandboxed scripts to invoke constructors of arbitrary types without those invocations being checked by the sandbox, bypassing the sandbox protection. This can be used to execute arbitrary code on the Jenkins controller. Script Security Plugin 1402.1405.vc96e74964250 updates the bundled groovy-sandbox library to a version that intercepts the implicit type cast applied to typed for loop elements, so those casts are checked by the sandbox.

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-57280

Advisory: Jenkins Script Security Plugin sandbox bypass vulnerability
IDs: CVE-2026-57280, GHSA-c3jm-9vj7-5v66
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-57280 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 16:55 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: High (CVSS 8.8)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: org.jenkins-ci.plugins:script-security 1402.1405.vc96e74964250. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Maven org.jenkins-ci.plugins:script-security: affected < 1402.1405.vc96e74964250; fixed in 1402.1405.vc96e74964250

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Maven org.jenkins-ci.plugins:script-security: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on org.jenkins-ci.plugins:script-security.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
