PraisonAI Slack app_mention bypasses configured user/channel authorization
CVE-2026-56835GHSA-qvpf-j64c-jmhr
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (praisonai 4.6.59), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

PraisonAI Slack appmention bypasses configured user/channel authorization Summary PraisonAI's Slack bot applies its configured allowedusers, allowedchannels, and unknown-user pairing policy in the normal Slack message event handler, but not in the adjacent Slack appmention event handler. A Slack workspace user who can mention the bot in a channel where the Slack app is present can trigger the configured PraisonAI agent even when: - the sender is not in BotConfig.allowedusers; - the channel is not in BotConfig.allowedchannels; - unknownuserpolicy="deny" is configured; and - the same event content is correctly dropped by the normal message handler. This is a sibling-handler guard-coverage issue. Slack documents appmention as a distinct event type rather than a message. event, so deployments subscribed to app mentions can route unauthorized sender input around the guarded message path. # Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-56835 Advisory: PraisonAI Slack app_mention bypasses configured user/channel authorization IDs: CVE-2026-56835, GHSA-qvpf-j64c-jmhr Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-56835 (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:49 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 8.3) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: praisonai 4.6.59. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - PyPI praisonai: affected >= 3.11.0, <= 4.6.58; fixed in 4.6.59 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `python -m pip show praisonai`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on praisonai. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-qvpf-j64c-jmhr (OSV record GHSA-qvpf-j64c-jmhr lists affected ranges: PyPI praisonai >=3.11.0 <4.6.59 (fixed)) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-qvpf-j64c-jmhr (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-qvpf-j64c-jmhr lists affected ranges: PyPI praisonai >=3.11.0 <=4.6.58) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
