PrivateBin has reflected JSON injection in backend responses via unescaped REQUEST_URI

CVE-2026-55891GHSA-xrjc-c68j-hp7w

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (privatebin/privatebin 2.0.5), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Vulnerability Details A reflected JSON injection allows an attacker to return arbitrary data in the JSON endpoints (like /?jsonld= and /?pasteid). Root Cause Request::getRequestUri() sanitizes $SERVER['REQUESTURI'] with FILTERSANITIZEURL: FILTERSANITIZEURL does not strip ", ', <, characters (per the PHP manual's allowed-character list for this filter). So the raw, attacker-controlled request URI (including query string) passes through almost unmodified into Controller::$urlBase (set in init()). In Controller::jsonld(), $urlBase is spliced directly into one of the static .jsonld templates (js/types.jsonld, js/paste.jsonld, etc.) with a plain strreplace(), without any JSON-escaping: A request URI containing a literal " therefore breaks out of the JSON string in the "@context"."pb" value and injects arbitrary attacker-controlled key/value pairs into the response body, which is served with Content-Type: application/ld+json and Access-Control-Allow-Origin: . Additionally, the jsonld case…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-55891

Advisory: PrivateBin has reflected JSON injection in backend responses via unescaped REQUEST_URI
IDs: CVE-2026-55891, GHSA-xrjc-c68j-hp7w
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-55891 (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 14:50 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Unrated (CVSS 0.0)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: privatebin/privatebin 2.0.5. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Packagist privatebin/privatebin: affected <= 2.0.4; fixed in 2.0.5

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Packagist privatebin/privatebin: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on privatebin/privatebin.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
