OpenFGA: OIDC audience validation skipped when --authn-oidc-audience is unset
CVE-2026-55689GHSA-hcxc-wf8j-23hv
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/openfga/openfga 1.18.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Description OpenFGA's OIDC authenticator skipped JWT audience (aud) validation when no audience was configured. In deployments where one identity provider issues tokens for multiple services, a token minted for an unrelated service could authenticate to OpenFGA. Preconditions This applies if the following preconditions are met: 1. You run OpenFGA with authn.method set to oidc. 2. You configured authn.oidc.issuer but did not set authn.oidc.audience (--authn-oidc-audience / OPENFGAAUTHNOIDCAUDIENCE). Fix Upgrade to OpenFGA 1.18.0 or greater. OpenFGA now refuses to start in oidc mode unless both authn.oidc.issuer and authn.oidc.audience are set, and the aud claim is always validated. Acknowledgements OpenFGA would like to thank https://github.com/0xVijay for the report.

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-55689 Advisory: OpenFGA: OIDC audience validation skipped when --authn-oidc-audience is unset IDs: CVE-2026-55689, GHSA-hcxc-wf8j-23hv Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-55689 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:27 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 6.8) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/openfga/openfga 1.18.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/openfga/openfga: affected <= 1.17.1; fixed in 1.18.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/openfga/openfga: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/openfga/openfga. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-hcxc-wf8j-23hv (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-hcxc-wf8j-23hv lists affected ranges: Go github.com/openfga/openfga >=0 <=1.17.1) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
