Budibase has arbitrary file read by workspace-builder via PWA-zip symlink upload
CVE-2026-54352GHSA-w7mq-r738-x278
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (@budibase/server 3.39.9), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary POST /api/pwa/process-zip at packages/server/src/api/routes/static.ts:24 accepts a builder-uploaded .zip, extracts it with extract-zip@2.0.1 into a temp directory, then for each entry listed in icons.json validates the icon path, opens it, and streams the bytes into MinIO. The resulting object is served back via GET /api/assets/{appId}/pwa/{uuid}.png. extract-zip@2.0.1 preserves absolute symlink targets when restoring symlink entries. The icon-source validator at packages/server/src/api/controllers/static/index.ts:259-268 resolves the icon source string against baseDir (path.resolve), checks resolvedSrc.startsWith(baseDir + path.sep) against that string, and calls fs.existsSync(resolvedSrc) which follows symbolic links to confirm the target exists. None of the three calls reject symbolic-link entries, so an entry stored at baseDir/evil.png but pointing at /data/.env passes the gate. packages/backend-core/src/objectStore/objectStore.ts:302 then calls (await…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-54352 Advisory: Budibase has arbitrary file read by workspace-builder via PWA-zip symlink upload IDs: CVE-2026-54352, GHSA-w7mq-r738-x278 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-54352 (revision 3, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:01 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Critical (CVSS 9.6) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: @budibase/server 3.39.9. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - npm @budibase/server: affected < 3.39.9; fixed in 3.39.9 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `npm ls @budibase/server --all`: lists every installed copy and version, including transitive ones. Run in the project root after `npm ci`. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on @budibase/server. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-w7mq-r738-x278 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-w7mq-r738-x278 lists affected ranges: npm @budibase/server >=0 <3.39.9) - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-w7mq-r738-x278 (OSV record GHSA-w7mq-r738-x278 lists affected ranges: npm @budibase/server >=0 <3.39.9 (fixed)) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
