Daytona: Path traversal in sandbox volume id mounts arbitrary host paths into the sandbox — cross-tenant data access and host escape

CVE-2026-54319GHSA-fjv8-j4p5-cr9m

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/daytonaio/daytona 0.186.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Summary A sandbox volume reference (volumeId, which may also be a volume name) was forwarded to the runner and used to build the host bind-mount source path without confinement. A reference containing path-traversal sequences could in principle resolve the mount source outside the intended per-volume base directory. Impact Had the traversal been reachable, an authenticated user could have caused the runner to bind-mount an unintended host path into their sandbox, with a worst-case impact of read and write access to other tenants' volume data (per-volume FUSE mounts are world-readable and writable). Important: this path was not exploitable in any released version. A volume reference is validated against the database before it reaches the runner, and the volume id column is a UUID type, so a reference containing traversal sequences is rejected at validation time and the request fails before any mount is constructed. We could not reproduce cross-tenant access or an out-of-base host…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-54319

Advisory: Daytona: Path traversal in sandbox volume id mounts arbitrary host paths into the sandbox — cross-tenant data access and host escape
IDs: CVE-2026-54319, GHSA-fjv8-j4p5-cr9m
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-54319 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:25 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Medium (CVSS 4.2)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/daytonaio/daytona 0.186.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Go github.com/daytonaio/daytona: affected <= 0.185.0; fixed in 0.186.0

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Go github.com/daytonaio/daytona: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on github.com/daytonaio/daytona.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.

## Sources
- Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-fjv8-j4p5-cr9m (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-fjv8-j4p5-cr9m lists affected ranges: Go github.com/daytonaio/daytona >=0 <=0.185.0)
