Open WebUI: Forged chat-file link allows cross-user file read and deletion
CVE-2026-54010GHSA-vrhc-3fr6-pc3c
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (open-webui 0.9.6), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Summary Open WebUI v0.9.5 lets an authenticated user attach arbitrary fileid values to their own chat message without checking whether they own or can read those files. If the attacker then shares that chat and grants themselves read access, hasaccesstofile() treats the victim file as accessible through the shared chat, and the file endpoints read or delete the victim file. Impact Security boundary crossed: file confidentiality and integrity. An authenticated attacker who knows or obtains a victim fileid can make Open WebUI authorize, through an attacker-owned shared chat: - reading the victim file via GET /api/v1/files/{id}/content, and - deleting the victim file via DELETE /api/v1/files/{id}. Root Cause Client-controlled message file IDs are persisted without file authorization checks: insertchatfiles() stores the provided IDs directly: Later, file authorization trusts shared-chat associations: The download endpoint uses this helper: On affected versions this shared-chat branch is…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-54010 Advisory: Open WebUI: Forged chat-file link allows cross-user file read and deletion IDs: CVE-2026-54010, GHSA-vrhc-3fr6-pc3c Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-54010 (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:49 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 8.3) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: open-webui 0.9.6. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - PyPI open-webui: affected <= 0.9.5; fixed in 0.9.6 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `python -m pip show open-webui`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on open-webui. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-vrhc-3fr6-pc3c (OSV record GHSA-vrhc-3fr6-pc3c lists affected ranges: PyPI open-webui >=0 <0.9.6 (fixed)) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-vrhc-3fr6-pc3c (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-vrhc-3fr6-pc3c lists affected ranges: PyPI open-webui >=0 <=0.9.5) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
