Craft CMS: Missing peer-permission check in AssetsController::actionDeleteFolder allows deletion of other users' assets
CVE-2026-50284GHSA-7h62-6v23-v8fm
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (craftcms/cms 5.9.22, 4.17.15), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary AssetsController::actionDeleteFolder() only requires the deleteAssets:<volume-uid permission for the target folder. It never enforces deletePeerAssets:<volume-uid, even though Assets::deleteFoldersByIds() cascades deletion to every descendant folder and every asset inside, regardless of who uploaded them. A low-privilege user who has been granted folder-management rights on a shared volume can therefore destroy assets uploaded by other users (peer assets), bypassing the per-asset peer-permission check that the sibling actionDeleteAsset endpoint correctly applies. This is the same bug class that was just fixed in actionMoveFolder as GHSA-3w32-23wj-rxg3 (commit 05c2042, Apr 23 2026); the fix added requireVolumePermissionByFolder('deletePeerAssets', …) and savePeerAssets checks to the move endpoint but did not propagate to the delete-folder endpoint. Details src/controllers/AssetsController.php:552-569: requireVolumePermissionByFolder()…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-50284 Advisory: Craft CMS: Missing peer-permission check in `AssetsController::actionDeleteFolder` allows deletion of other users' assets IDs: CVE-2026-50284, GHSA-7h62-6v23-v8fm Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-50284 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 14:49 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 7.1) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: craftcms/cms 5.9.22, 4.17.15. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Packagist craftcms/cms: affected >= 5.0.0-RC1, < 5.9.22; >= 4.0.0-RC1, < 4.17.15; fixed in 4.17.15, 5.9.22 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Packagist craftcms/cms: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on craftcms/cms. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-7h62-6v23-v8fm (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-7h62-6v23-v8fm lists affected ranges: Packagist craftcms/cms >=5.0.0-RC1 =4.0.0-RC1 <4.17.15) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
