Craft CMS: Authorization bypass in entries/move-to-section via missing target-section save check
CVE-2026-50280GHSA-43cq-c2gq-pfpw
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (craftcms/cms 5.9.21), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Summary The EntriesController::actionMoveToSection() endpoint checks only whether the current user can view the destination section, but it does not require permission to save entries into that section. A low-privileged authenticated control-panel user who can move an entry out of its current section can therefore move that entry into a different section where they have read access but no write access. Details The vulnerable route is implemented in EntriesController.php:465: The destination check is only viewEntries:$section-uid . The source-entry gate is Entry::canMove(), which verifies whether the user can move the existing entry based on the source section: This closes the exploit chain: 1. External source: authenticated CP request to entries/move-to-section. 2. Missing authorization check: destination section requires only viewEntries, not saveEntries. 3. Privileged sink: moveEntryToSection() rewrites sectionId and saves the entry into the unauthorized section. Preconditions…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-50280 Advisory: Craft CMS: Authorization bypass in `entries/move-to-section` via missing target-section save check IDs: CVE-2026-50280, GHSA-43cq-c2gq-pfpw Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-50280 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 14:49 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 6.0) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: craftcms/cms 5.9.21. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Packagist craftcms/cms: affected >= 5.0.0-RC1, < 5.9.21; fixed in 5.9.21 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Packagist craftcms/cms: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on craftcms/cms. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-43cq-c2gq-pfpw (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-43cq-c2gq-pfpw lists affected ranges: Packagist craftcms/cms >=5.0.0-RC1 <5.9.21) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
