Hugo: XSS via text/html content files
CVE-2026-50133GHSA-c54g-xjwj-8g82
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/gohugoio/hugo 0.162.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Commit: e41a06447d — Disallow HTML content by default Affected versions: all Hugo versions prior to v0.162.0. Fixed in: v0.162.0. Severity: Low to Medium, depending on threat model. Not an issue if you fully trust every file under /content and every content adapter you load. Description. Hugo accepts content files in several markup formats. Files mapped to the text/html media type (typically .html files under /content, or pages produced by a content adapter that sets content.mediaType = "text/html") had their body emitted verbatim into the rendered page. A site that ingests HTML content from an untrusted source — for example, a CMS-backed editor, a content adapter pulling from an external API, or an automated import pipeline — could therefore be served stored cross-site scripting. Mitigation. v0.162.0 introduces a security.allowContent whitelist with text/html denied by default. Sites that intentionally author HTML content can opt back in: This only affects pages whose source file…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-50133 Advisory: Hugo: XSS via text/html content files IDs: CVE-2026-50133, GHSA-c54g-xjwj-8g82 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-50133 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:23 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 5.1) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/gohugoio/hugo 0.162.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/gohugoio/hugo: affected < 0.162.0; fixed in 0.162.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/gohugoio/hugo: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/gohugoio/hugo. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-c54g-xjwj-8g82 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-c54g-xjwj-8g82 lists affected ranges: Go github.com/gohugoio/hugo >=0 <0.162.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
