Gitea: RSS/Atom feed handlers bypass API-token scope & public-only confinement (incomplete fix of #37698)

CVE-2026-50105GHSA-6cqf-375w-639g

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (code.gitea.io/gitea 1.27.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Summary Gitea's RSS/Atom feed handlers accept API-token Basic auth but perform no token-scope or public-only enforcement. A personal access token that is correctly blocked (HTTP 403) from a private repository on /raw, /media, /archive, and /releases/download/... — because it is marked public-only or lacks the repository scope category — still returns that repository's private content through the feed routes. This is a token-confinement bypass and appears to be an incomplete fix of #37698, which added that scope enforcement to the download handlers but not to the sibling feed handlers. This is not a cross-user access bug: the requesting account must still legitimately have repo read access (RepoAssignment + reqUnitCodeReader are enforced). What is bypassed is the guarantee that a confined token cannot reach private content — which is exactly the property #37698 was shipped to provide for downloads, and which matters when such a token is handed to a third-party service/CI, leaked, or…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-50105

Advisory: Gitea: RSS/Atom feed handlers bypass API-token scope & public-only confinement (incomplete fix of #37698)
IDs: CVE-2026-50105, GHSA-6cqf-375w-639g
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-50105 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:27 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Medium (CVSS 4.3)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: code.gitea.io/gitea 1.27.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Go code.gitea.io/gitea: affected < 1.27.0; fixed in 1.27.0

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Go code.gitea.io/gitea: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on code.gitea.io/gitea.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.

## Sources
- Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-6cqf-375w-639g (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-6cqf-375w-639g lists affected ranges: Go code.gitea.io/gitea >=0 <1.27.0)

Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
