Apache Camel-Netty-HTTP: The muteException consumer option defaulted to false, so a processing error returned the full Java stack trace in the HTTP response body
CVE-2026-49365GHSA-42q5-xw42-xf9g
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (org.apache.camel:camel-netty-http 4.21.0, 4.18.3, 4.14.8), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

Generation of Error Message Containing Sensitive Information vulnerability in Apache Camel Netty HTTP component. The camel-netty-http HTTP server consumer exposes a muteException option that controls what is returned to the client when a route processing error occurs. This option defaulted to false because the backing field was an uninitialised primitive boolean (Java's default of false), whereas the other Camel HTTP server components (camel-http / camel-jetty / camel-servlet and camel-platform-http) default it to true. With muteException=false, when a request triggers an exception during route processing the consumer writes the full Throwable stack trace into the HTTP response body as text/plain (via DefaultNettyHttpBinding) instead of returning an empty body. Any unauthenticated client that can reach the endpoint and cause a processing error - for example by sending a malformed request body, an invalid parameter, or otherwise triggering a route-internal failure - therefore receives…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-49365 Advisory: Apache Camel-Netty-HTTP: The muteException consumer option defaulted to false, so a processing error returned the full Java stack trace in the HTTP response body IDs: CVE-2026-49365, GHSA-42q5-xw42-xf9g Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-49365 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 16:55 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 5.3) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: org.apache.camel:camel-netty-http 4.21.0, 4.18.3, 4.14.8. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Maven org.apache.camel:camel-netty-http: affected >= 4.0.0, < 4.14.8; >= 4.15.0, < 4.18.3; >= 4.19.0, < 4.21.0; fixed in 4.21.0, 4.14.8, 4.18.3 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Maven org.apache.camel:camel-netty-http: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on org.apache.camel:camel-netty-http. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-42q5-xw42-xf9g (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-42q5-xw42-xf9g lists affected ranges: Maven org.apache.camel:camel-netty-http >=4.0.0 =4.15.0 =4.19.0 <4.21.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
