Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Taipy 4.1.1, fixed in commit 129fd40, contains a path traversal vulnerability in the ElementLibrary.getresource() method in taipy/gui/extension/library.py that allows unauthenticated attackers to escape the intended module directory by exploiting an incomplete path containment check using str.startswith() without a trailing path separator. Attackers can send crafted GET requests with path traversal segments targeting a prefix-matching sibling directory on disk, bypassing the directory containment check because Flask's path converter and Werkzeug's WSGI layer preserve the traversal segments while the resolved path still satisfies the flawed startswith comparison, enabling unauthorized file access outside the intended library directory.

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-48544

Advisory: Taipy contains a path traversal vulnerability
IDs: CVE-2026-48544, GHSA-28gh-q3gw-pvx8
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-48544 (revision 3, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:46 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: High (CVSS 8.7)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor response not established. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- PyPI taipy: affected <= 4.1.1

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- `python -m pip show taipy`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active.

## Supported action
No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on taipy.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
