GitHub CLI has an incorrect authorization header in API requests to TUF repository mirrors via gh attestation, gh release verify, and gh release verify-asset commands
CVE-2026-48501GHSA-8xvp-7hj6-mcj9
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/cli/cli/v2 2.93.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Summary GitHub CLI incorrectly includes an authorization header in API requests to TUF repository mirrors via gh attestation, gh release verify, and gh release verify-asset commands. Affected users: - Authenticated github.com users who previously ran gh attestation commands, gh release verify, or gh release verify-asset: the github.com token was included in requests to tuf-repo.github.com, a GitHub Pages domain that is not a GitHub API endpoint. All authentication types are affected. - Users with GHENTERPRISETOKEN or GITHUBENTERPRISETOKEN set who previously ran gh attestation commands, gh release verify, or gh release verify-asset: the enterprise token was included in requests to external hosts tuf-repo-cdn.sigstore.dev and tmaproduction.blob.core.windows.net. These hosts are not operated by GitHub. Details The CLI uses a shared HTTP client with an authentication layer that automatically attaches tokens to outgoing requests. This layer lacks accurate host detection and can…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-48501 Advisory: GitHub CLI has an incorrect authorization header in API requests to TUF repository mirrors via `gh attestation`, `gh release verify`, and `gh release verify-asset` commands IDs: CVE-2026-48501, GHSA-8xvp-7hj6-mcj9 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-48501 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:27 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 7.4) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/cli/cli/v2 2.93.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/cli/cli/v2: affected <= 2.92.0; fixed in 2.93.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/cli/cli/v2: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/cli/cli/v2. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-8xvp-7hj6-mcj9 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-8xvp-7hj6-mcj9 lists affected ranges: Go github.com/cli/cli/v2 >=0 <=2.92.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
