opentelemetry-collector-contrib sentryexporter: Path traversal in Sentry exporter via attacker-controlled service.name reaches privileged Sentry API endpoints with operator bearer token
CVE-2026-47256GHSA-4jvg-4jfx-fmhc
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-collector-contrib/exporter/sentryexporter 0.154.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary The Sentry exporter constructs Sentry API URLs by interpolating the span's service.name resource attribute into the URL path without validation. Because service.name is controlled by remote OTLP senders and the operator-configured bearer token is attached to every request, a crafted service name can reach arbitrary Sentry API endpoints reachable by that token — including privileged admin, organization, and member endpoints within the configured Sentry organization. Affected - exporter/sentryexporter/sentryexporter.go (lines 715–737) — extractProjectSlug returns the attacker-controlled service.name directly as the slug. - exporter/sentryexporter/sentryexporter.go (lines 745–809) — getOrCreateProjectEndpoint passes the raw slug to GetOTLPEndpoints at line 761. - exporter/sentryexporter/sentryclient.go (lines 190–244) — GetProjectKeys interpolates the slug into fmt.Sprintf URL path and attaches the operator bearer token on line 207. - exporter/sentryexporter/sentryclient.go…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-47256 Advisory: opentelemetry-collector-contrib sentryexporter: Path traversal in Sentry exporter via attacker-controlled service.name reaches privileged Sentry API endpoints with operator bearer token IDs: CVE-2026-47256, GHSA-4jvg-4jfx-fmhc Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-47256 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:24 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 5.3) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-collector-contrib/exporter/sentryexporter 0.154.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-collector-contrib/exporter/sentryexporter: affected < 0.154.0; fixed in 0.154.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-collector-contrib/exporter/sentryexporter: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-collector-contrib/exporter/sentryexporter. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-4jvg-4jfx-fmhc (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-4jvg-4jfx-fmhc lists affected ranges: Go github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-collector-contrib/exporter/sentryexporter >=0 <0.154.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
