HAXcms: Mass Token Exfiltration and Cross-Tenant Hijack

CVE-2026-46511GHSA-x3x5-7h4h-gwxg

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (@haxtheweb/haxcms-nodejs 26.0.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Summary An attack chain utilizing Stored XSS alongside dynamic token exposure in the /system/api/connectionSettings endpoint allows an authenticated attacker to perform a complete cross-tenant account takeover. The API dynamically leaks the active session's authentication tokens (including the jwt, usertoken, sitetoken, and appstoretoken) into a global JavaScript variable (window.appSettings). An attacker can exploit the XSS vulnerability to force a victim's browser to silently fetch their specific connection settings, extract the tokens, and exfiltrate them to an attacker-controlled webhook. Details In Operations.php (connectionSettings()), the system returns a Javascript object designed to bootstrap the frontend context. This object, window.appSettings, acts as a "skeleton key" because it aggregates all necessary operational tokens for the active session. While HAXcms correctly relies on the cryptographically signed JWT for backend authentication (preventing Direct Object…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-46511

Advisory: HAXcms: Mass Token Exfiltration and Cross-Tenant Hijack
IDs: CVE-2026-46511, GHSA-x3x5-7h4h-gwxg
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-46511 (revision 3, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 12:53 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: High (CVSS 8.7)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: @haxtheweb/haxcms-nodejs 26.0.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- npm @haxtheweb/haxcms-nodejs: affected <= 25.0.0; fixed in 26.0.0

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- `npm ls @haxtheweb/haxcms-nodejs --all`: lists every installed copy and version, including transitive ones. Run in the project root after `npm ci`.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on @haxtheweb/haxcms-nodejs.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
